Red Lentil Steaks


For 2 people – easy ~ €

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: about 15 + 10 minutes in the skillet

Resting time: 10 minutes


  • 100 g (1 dl) of coral lentils
  • 3 dl water
  • 2 tbsp oatmeal (or 2 tbsp of chia seeds)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp paprika powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ a clove of garlic or a small clove
  • Cooking oil
  • Salt & pepper
  • Rice
  • 1 banana
  • Green beans
  • Sweet and sour sauce

Serve with rice, raw or fried bananas, sweet and sour sauce and green beans.

Rinse the red lentils with water and cook with the water in a pan (do not add salt, this hardens the lentils and prevents them from opening). Cook for 20 minutes (12 minutes for halved red lentils) until they are well opened and mash easily. If you use chia seeds add them after 15 minutes. (7 minutes for the halved lentils).

Meanwhile, mix the oatmeal to obtain a “flour”. When the lentils are cooked, add oats, olive oil, spices and garlic to the mashed potatoes and let stand 10 minutes for the oat to absorb the liquid and swell.

If you use chia seeds, you do not need the 10 minutes, but you can form the steaks directly in the pan.

Fry the steaks 5 minutes on each side in oil.
